Back in 2021, one of my best friends decided to go to beautiful Barcelona in Spain. We had no accurate plan of what to do or see. This was our frist trip together and it was during COVID so everything could easily get complicated.
Luckily it wasn´t! Everything went smooth !
We stayed in this Beautiful city 5 days and it was amazing !
She had school online every morning, which gave me some time to explore the city all by my self.
What should we do and see to make our trip even better ?
Barcelona can be used as a destination for nature, love for architecture, great parties, shopping or just relax and have fun by the beach, it depends on your purpose. But let me give you some great options to think about !
Sagrada Familia
The church they never finished. This project started back in 1882 and until this day, they are still building on it. Nobody knows if it will ever finish. It has a ground coverage of around 440,000 square feet (41,000 square meters). When it will be completed it will be the tallest religious building in Europe, with the central tower reaching 170 meters into the sky.
The church on the inside is enormous (obviously) and with its beautiful mosaic windows in so many colors and all the small religious artwork, this also makes it to the list of one of the most beautiful churches i´d ever seen. The tickets for entrance is a little bit expensive. If you are not willing to pay the price, fair not, it is free to walk around it. Even the work around it is magical.
Magic Fountain of Montjuïc
The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc is a fountain located at the head of Avinguda Maria Cristina in the Montjuïc neighborhood of Barcelona. It was designed for the 1929 Universal Exhibition by the engineer Carles Buigas and was restored in 1992 for the Olympic games.
Every morning when i had my daily alone time I told my self that i would go a new direction everyday. That way i could discover more places every day. As i walked i all of sudden reached this beautiful fountain. I was there early in the morning, so there was no show. but i got curious and fond videos from one of its shows. IT WAS AMAZING! If you are thinking about going here as a before dinner activity, you can find the show Schedule and some more history about it here. You dont need tickets for this, it is for free.
Plaça de les Cascades
As you are walking up to the fountain, your eyes cant avoid the big building right behind it. It is Plaça de les Cascades, its the national museum for art of Catalunya. I didn´t go in there, but everything around it was so nice.
Around the pretty building, they have fist of all, a lot of stairs. But trust your legs and go to the top and a walk around the area. It felt like; that at one point you were in the middel of the busy city life, and the next you are just sitting in a calm area. Just sitting there on a bench, next to another small fountain and reading a book. I felt much at peace here, i was just enjoying my existence at that moment.
La Rambla
La rambla is one of the most popular streets in Barcelona.
It is about 1,2 km long and goes from the Plaça de Catalunya (like central square) to Christopher Columbus monument at Port Vell. At La rambla you´ll find a lot of stores and shops, restaurants and bars. It is a really nice walk but be aware that in the summer season there will be a lot of tourists. And because of that, i would recommend that you try to walk down some of the small alleys from La rambla. We found small shops with chocolate, clothing, bread and squares like Plaça Reial who has some small restaurants as well.
Parc de l’Espanya Industrial
One morning i was walking a new direction as i did the days before. This time it lead me to this wonderful park. As i was walking around to find a bench where i could sit and read, i met around 14 dogs with their owners. At one point I thought it a dog park I have entered, but no. I saw young people sitting on blankets talking and laughing, dogs play with each other and some boys play barsket ball on a small field. It was so peaceful and fun. All i could hear was the birds singing, dogs barking at each other and Spanish conversations. It was a joy just to sit there and read and do some people watching.
It was decorated with some of the elements like water, fire and earth.
Earth because of the trees and grass, water because of the huge landscaped lake and fire because of the huge slide that was dressed like a dragon. Besides that, there were nine lighthouses placed on top of the white-tiled steps where you also could sit and do whatever. Visit this place if you just want a cosy and calm morning or afternoon.
